JOSH ONGCOL
DANCER. CHOREOGRAPHER. COMMUNITY ORGANIZER.
Joshua Ongcol (he/they), also known as Joshee, is a 0.5-generation immigrant and queer Filipinx dance artist, choreographer, and community organizer based on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations in so-called Vancouver, BC.
Born in Dubai and raised in Vancouver, Joshee found in dance a place to work through his experiences of migration, queerness, spirituality, and the parts of his Filipino heritage that have been passed down or lost along the way. His practice draws from house, ballroom, waacking, contemporary dance, somatic practices, and ancestral Filipinx traditions. He treats movement as a living archive, a way of holding onto stories and finding new ways to tell them.
Since 2022, Joshee has run Q7 House Sessions, a free weekly gathering for dancers and DJs sponsored by Out on the InnerSpace. The sessions have become an ongoing part of his work in building community through dance, creating space for people to move and learn from one another.
